Kaduna, Nigeria – Amnesty International has strongly condemned the killing of at least 30 people in a brutal overnight attack on Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, describing the incident as one of the deadliest assaults on communities in Southern Kaduna in recent years.
According to the human rights organization, heavily armed gunmen stormed the village on Sunday night, killing scores of residents, including women and children. Those who attempted to flee were reportedly chased into nearby bushes and murdered.
Amnesty International said many residents remain unaccounted for, while local volunteers continue to recover bodies from homes, surrounding farmlands, and nearby bushes. The death toll is expected to rise as search efforts continue.
The organization revealed that disturbing images obtained from the community showed entire families slaughtered inside their homes. According to Amnesty International, some children had their throats slit, while others sustained severe head injuries. Bloodstains were reportedly found on beds, kitchen floors, and along escape routes where victims bled while trying to flee.
The rights group described the attack as a tragic reflection of Nigeria's worsening security crisis, particularly in rural communities across Southern Kaduna, where similar attacks have occurred repeatedly over the years.
Amnesty International also criticized the Federal Government's response to the persistent violence, noting that despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's repeated assurances and directives to security agencies to restore peace, deadly attacks continue unabated.
"The continued massacre of innocent civilians shows that government efforts have not translated into effective protection for vulnerable communities," the organization said, adding that the inability of authorities to arrest and prosecute those responsible has encouraged a culture of impunity.
Residents of the affected community have called for urgent deployment of security personnel and humanitarian assistance for survivors, many of whom have been displaced by the attack.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over the security situation in Kaduna State and other parts of northern Nigeria, where rural communities continue to face deadly attacks from armed groups.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not released an official statement confirming the casualty figures or announcing any arrests in connection with the attack.
