APC Governors Reject Alliances That Could Undermine Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has declared that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not support any political alliance or arrangement capable of undermining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

The forum made the position known on Monday in Abuja following a meeting of APC governors, where members reaffirmed their commitment to the party and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, said the governors had resolved to work collectively towards securing victory for President Tinubu and APC candidates across the country.

According to Uzodimma, the forum would not endorse any political arrangement that could weaken the APC or diminish the President’s chances of securing a second term.

He said the governors remained committed to supporting Tinubu and other candidates fielded by the party at the federal, state and local levels.

The declaration comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures and political groups exploring possible alliances aimed at challenging the ruling party.

The APC leadership and its governors have, however, continued to emphasise party cohesion and the consolidation of the Tinubu administration’s policies as central to their 2027 strategy.

Uzodimma’s statement also signals an effort by the APC governors to establish a unified position as political negotiations intensify across the country.

With the 2027 elections approaching, the stance of the governors could become significant in shaping the APC’s strategy, particularly in states where emerging alliances and intra-party interests are generating political competition.

The PGF’s position effectively places the governors behind the Tinubu re-election project while committing them to supporting APC candidates throughout the electoral process.
