Attackers Target Atiku’s ADC Campaign Convoy In Kebbi, Smash Journalists’ Cameras, Destroy Media Equipment

.............Suspected political thugs reportedly attacked the ADC presidential campaign convoy in Kebbi, destroying cameras, video-recording equipment and other gadgets belonging to the media crew, as Atiku’s aide accuses APC of sponsoring the assault.

The presidential campaign convoy of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly come under attack by suspected political thugs in Kebbi State, with several media equipment destroyed in an incident that has raised fresh concerns about political violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The attack, which reportedly occurred on Thursday, November 5, 2026, targeted members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign team accompanying Atiku during his political engagements in the state.

According to Royalty Uso, Atiku’s Special Adviser on New Media, the attackers allegedly descended on the campaign convoy, destroying several gadgets belonging to the media crew responsible for documenting and transmitting the campaign activities.

The equipment reportedly included cameras, video-recording devices, tripods and other essential production gadgets.

Uso, who raised the alarm on social media, accused supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring the attack, alleging that the assault was deliberately targeted at the campaign’s media personnel.

He suggested that the destruction of the equipment was intended to frustrate the team's coverage and prevent Nigerians from accessing footage of the campaign activities.

The allegation, however, has not been independently established, and the APC's response was not available at the time of filing this report.

A Threat To Democratic Participation

The reported assault represents another troubling allegation of political intimidation at a time when political activities are gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

Beyond the destruction of valuable equipment, the reported targeting of campaign media personnel raises serious questions about the safety of journalists, political observers and other professionals covering political activities across the country.

Political campaigns are constitutionally protected democratic activities. No political party or group of supporters has the right to intimidate opponents, obstruct lawful political engagements or destroy property because of political differences.

If established, the deliberate targeting of media personnel and the destruction of their equipment would constitute a serious attack on the freedom to document and report political events.

Police, Security Agencies Under Pressure To Act

The Kebbi State Police Command and other relevant security agencies must urgently establish what happened, identify those responsible and investigate the allegation of political sponsorship.

The authorities must also determine whether the incident involved physical assaults, threats to life or other criminal acts beyond the reported destruction of equipment.

The APC should equally be given an opportunity to respond to the allegation, while the ADC campaign team should provide any available video evidence, photographs and details that could assist an independent investigation.

Nigeria cannot afford an electoral environment in which political disagreement degenerates into intimidation, attacks on campaign convoys and destruction of media equipment.

The credibility of the 2027 electoral process will depend not only on the conduct of elections but also on whether political parties, supporters and security agencies respect the rights and safety of all participants.

The Analyst Online Media will continue to follow developments surrounding the incident, including official reactions and the outcome of any police investigation.
