Wike Blasts Amaechi, Challenges Ex-Rivers Governor to Account for Public Funds
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has launched a verbal attack on former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, describing him as a “lunatic” and questioning his record in public office.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of mismanaging public funds and challenging him to account for alleged financial discrepancies during his eight-year administration of the state.

Wike, who governed Rivers State from 2015 to 2023, reportedly used the derogatory term “lunatic” to describe Amaechi, escalating the political confrontation between two former governors whose relationship has been marked by deepening rivalry.

The FCT minister also questioned Amaechi’s public conduct, warning that inflammatory political statements could undermine his ambitions and weaken his standing in the political arena.

At the centre of Wike’s criticism is the demand that Amaechi provide explanations for alleged financial irregularities associated with his tenure as governor. The accusations, however, require documentary evidence and an opportunity for Amaechi to respond.

The exchange highlights the enduring political divisions within Rivers State, where disputes involving former governors continue to shape political alliances and influence the wider struggle for power.

Both men have played influential roles in Rivers State politics and Nigerian national affairs. Their rivalry has also become a significant feature of the state’s political landscape, with implications for party alignments and future electoral contests.

Wike’s challenge raises a broader question about accountability in public office: former governors and other public officials should be prepared to defend their records, explain the use of public resources and respond to credible allegations of financial misconduct.

However, allegations of mismanagement should not be treated as established facts without verifiable evidence or findings by the appropriate authorities.

Amaechi’s response to Wike’s latest accusations was not available at the time of publication. The Analyst Online Media will update this report if he issues a response.
