Kaduna to Prioritise Agriculture, Health, Education in 2027 Budget

KADUNA, Nigeria — Kaduna State will prioritise agriculture, healthcare and education in its 2027 budget as the government seeks to strengthen human capital development and direct public spending towards key social and economic sectors, the state’s planning and budget commissioner said on Wednesday.

Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Muktar Monrovia, disclosed this during the 2027 expenditure and revenue budget defence exercise.

He said human capital development would remain a central focus of the state’s fiscal priorities, with increased attention to sectors capable of improving livelihoods, expanding economic opportunities and strengthening public services.

“Agriculture, health and education will receive increased attention in the 2027 budget,” Monrovia said, adding that the government would align spending proposals with its development priorities.

The commissioner said greater investment in agriculture would support food production and economic activity, while increased funding for healthcare and education would contribute to improving the wellbeing and skills of residents.

The budget defence exercise is part of the state’s preparations for the 2027 appropriation, during which ministries, departments and agencies defend their proposed revenue and expenditure estimates.

Monrovia said the process would help ensure that available resources were channelled to priority programmes and projects with measurable impact on residents.

The commissioner did not disclose specific allocations for the three sectors during the exercise.

The proposed 2027 budget will be subjected to the remaining stages of the state’s budget process before it is presented for legislative consideration and approval.
