The Bauchi State Police Command reported the arrest of 47 persons allegedly posing as members of a state-owned security outfit at various polling units in Disina. Police said the suspects were allegedly found in possession of firearms, cutlasses, sticks and other dangerous items.
The arrests followed a police directive restricting state-owned security outfits, quasi-security agencies, private security guards and vigilante groups from participating in election-security operations.
The Bauchi State Government subsequently called for the release of some persons arrested during the wider bye-election, with Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau alleging that some APM supporters had been arrested and intimidated.
