Bala Mohammed Orders Faster Pace on Multi-Billion Naira Flood Control Project in Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has ordered the contractor handling the ongoing multi-billion-naira flood and erosion control project from Tsohon Kampani to Gwallaga-Mayaka in Bauchi Local Government Area to accelerate the pace of work.
The Governor issued the directive during an inspection of the project at the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) section, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of construction.
The project is being executed under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme, a World Bank-financed initiative aimed at addressing environmental degradation, flooding and erosion challenges in vulnerable communities.
Mohammed, who closely inspected the level of work at the site, reportedly expressed concern that the pace of execution did not correspond with the scale and urgency of the project.
He consequently directed the contractor to deploy additional equipment and increase the number of workers at the site to ensure that construction progresses at a faster rate.
The Governor stressed the need for timely completion, particularly given the devastating effects of flooding and erosion on communities and infrastructure across the state.
He also urged the relevant project authorities and contractors to maintain the required standards while ensuring that the project is delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
The Tsohon Kampani–Gwallaga-Mayaka flood and erosion control project is expected to provide critical protection to communities and infrastructure within the affected areas while mitigating the recurring environmental and economic damage caused by flooding.
The inspection forms part of the state government's ongoing monitoring of major infrastructure and development projects across Bauchi State.
