2027 Presidency: Lauretta Onochie Predicts Atiku Will Become Nigeria’s Next President.
By The Analyst Desk
Former presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, has expressed confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will emerge as Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 presidential election.
Onochie, who served as a senior aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, reportedly made the prediction while highlighting what she described as the potential for Atiku’s presidency to bring significant economic transformation to the Southeast.
She expressed optimism that the Southeast would align with Atiku ahead of the 2027 election, arguing that the region could benefit substantially from his economic vision and leadership.
According to her, Atiku has the capacity to drive industrial development in the Southeast by creating an environment conducive to investment, manufacturing and private-sector growth.
Her comments come amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition politicians and political groups intensifying consultations over possible alliances and presidential candidates.
Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
The former vice president has also been involved in ongoing discussions among opposition leaders seeking to build a broader political platform ahead of 2027.
Onochie’s prediction is likely to generate further debate, particularly in the Southeast, where political alignments ahead of the next presidential election remain fluid.
While the region has historically played a significant role in Nigeria’s presidential elections, the question of which candidate can secure substantial support from Southeast voters is expected to become increasingly important as the 2027 campaign season approaches.
With political consultations gathering momentum across the country, Atiku’s reported appeal to voters in the Southeast—and whether such support can translate into electoral advantage—will remain a major issue in the emerging 2027 political contest.
