How quickly can security agencies respond when citizens are attacked?
And what happens to the criminal networks responsible after their victims are rescued?
These questions matter because sustainable security is measured not only by the number of hostages recovered, but by the reduction in the number of people who become hostages in the first place.
The same principle applies to governance.
Improved military remuneration is important. Social interventions are important. Public investment is important.
But policies become meaningful only when they produce measurable improvements in citizens' lives.
As Nigeria approaches the 2027 electoral cycle, the public conversation must therefore move beyond personalities and political slogans.
Citizens deserve leaders who can demonstrate competence, integrity, accountability and results.
