FG Completes 10 Ultramodern Diagnostic Centres Nationwide — Pate
The Federal Government has completed 10 ultramodern diagnostic centres across the country as part of efforts to expand access to world-class healthcare infrastructure, diagnostic services and medical equipment.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, disclosed this on Monday during a courtesy visit to the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, at the Governor’s Office in Bauchi.
Pate said the Federal Government would commence the simultaneous commissioning of the facilities, beginning with the ultramodern radiodiagnostic centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
According to him, the projects were executed through Med-Serv and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) as part of the Federal Government’s broader investment in healthcare infrastructure.
“The reason for our visit is that we’re starting in Bauchi today, but we have 10 major health infrastructure projects carried out through Med-Serv, through NSIA, by the Federal Government, all across Nigeria.
“Two years ago, we laid the foundation for the first one here in Bauchi, a world-class radiodiagnostic centre, and two years later, that facility has been completed, and all the 10 facilities all over Nigeria have been completed,” Pate said.
The Minister described the development as the largest expansion of health infrastructure and equipment in the country’s history.
He disclosed that, in addition to the 10 radiodiagnostic centres, three world-class cancer treatment centres had also been completed.
“Beyond the 10 radiodiagnostic centres, there are also three world-class cancer centres that have been completed.
“So, we’re here to kick off by commissioning the world-class diagnostic centre at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital here in Bauchi, and then we’ll proceed to Oyo State, in Ibadan, to commission the second one, while eight others are already completed all over Nigeria,” he said.
Pate said the projects were part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s health sector through improved diagnostic capacity, modern medical equipment and high-quality healthcare infrastructure.
He added that the facilities would strengthen healthcare delivery while also supporting training, research and professional development.
“This marks a giant step in the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revamp Nigeria’s health sector with world-class diagnostic materials, infrastructure and equipment for services to Nigerians, as well as high-quality hospital infrastructure for services, training and research,” he said.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments in delivering sustainable healthcare infrastructure.
He said his visit to Bauchi was also an opportunity to acknowledge the state government’s cooperation in the implementation of the project.
Pate further disclosed that more major health infrastructure projects were in the pipeline, including six multi-specialty hospitals, with one planned for each of the country’s six geopolitical zones.
“But there’s a lot more good news coming behind this, because there are six major multi-specialty hospitals, one in each geopolitical zone, that are being prepared as part of the expansion of the footprint of the health sector in Nigeria,” he said.
Economic Reforms Driving Healthcare Investment — Oyedele
Also speaking, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, said the commissioning of the Med-Serv Diagnostic Centre was evidence of how the Federal Government’s economic reforms were being translated into tangible development projects.
Oyedele said the administration had supported the project from its groundbreaking through to completion.
“This is the commissioning of the Med-Serv Diagnostic Centre, a project the administration supported from groundbreaking through to completion.
“That project is a small picture of a larger point. The reforms we are pursuing nationally—stabilising the macro-economy, restoring investor confidence and strengthening our institutions—are not ends in themselves,” he said.
According to him, the reforms were intended to create the economic environment necessary for critical projects to be delivered and replicated across the country.
“They assist to make projects like the one we are commissioning today possible, and to make them repeatable in Bauchi State and across the country,” Oyedele added.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his engagement with the Federal Government, saying effective cooperation between the two levels of government was critical to achieving national development objectives.
“None of this happens without willing partners at the state level. Your Excellency’s engagement on this project, and on the broader question of how Bauchi State participates in national growth, from agriculture to security to human capital, is exactly the kind of federal-state alignment our reform agenda depends on,” he said.
Oyedele assured that the Federal Government would continue to work with Bauchi State and other states to translate economic stability into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
“We will continue to work with Bauchi State and with every state to turn macro-economic stability into tangible outcomes for our people: better healthcare, better infrastructure and a more productive economy,” he said.
