The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome murder of Jemimah J. Dutse, a former Zonal Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi South.
The Command said Dutse was found dead inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi, with her throat slit by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, who said detectives had commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to the Police, the incident was reported on October 3, 2026, at about 2:07pm at the ‘E’ Division in Bauchi.
“On 3rd October, 2026 at about 1407hrs, a 49-year-old man of Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, reported at ‘E’ Division that the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, with her throat slit by yet-to-be-identified assailant(s),” the statement said.
The Command said detectives attached to the division immediately visited the scene, documented relevant evidence and evacuated the deceased’s body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.
Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The Commissioner ordered a discreet and thorough investigation aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the killing, identifying those responsible and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Police Command also commiserated with the deceased’s family, friends and political associates, assuring the public that “no stone will be left unturned” in the pursuit of justice.
The Command said further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
TIB Demands Justice, Stronger Security
Meanwhile, the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement, Bauchi State Chapter, has condemned the killing and called on security agencies to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
In a statement dated October 4, 2026 and signed by the Bauchi State Coordinator of the movement, Nazif Bashi, the group expressed shock and outrage over the incident while commiserating with the deceased’s family, friends and associates.
The movement described the killing as a “senseless act of violence”, warning that the incident raised serious concerns about the safety of residents across the state.
“A society where citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, gender, or status, cannot feel safe in their own homes is one on the brink of breakdown,” the group said.
The TIB Movement insisted that justice must be seen to be done, demanding that those responsible for the killing be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
It said anyone found culpable must face the full wrath of the law, describing accountability as necessary to serve as a stern deterrent to criminal elements across Bauchi State.
The group further called on the Bauchi State Government and security authorities to strengthen local security measures, surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations across Bauchi metropolis and neighbouring local government areas.
According to the movement, such measures have become necessary to address what it described as a worrying rise in violent attacks and growing insecurity in the state.
It also appealed to civil society organisations, trade unions, human rights defenders and residents of Bauchi State to sustain demands for accountability until those responsible for Dutse’s death are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
“The Take-It-Back Movement reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the rights, safety and justice of all citizens.
“Silence in the face of tyranny and insecurity is complicity,” the group said.
The killing has heightened concerns over residential security in Bauchi, as police investigators continue efforts to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify the perpetrators.
