Emir of Zazzau Backs 100% Salary Increase for Kaduna Traditional Rulers

The Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has thrown his weight behind the proposed 100 per cent increase in the salaries and allowances of traditional rulers in Kaduna State.
Bamalli described the proposed increment as a “welcome relief” for the traditional institution, arguing that the current remuneration of traditional rulers no longer reflects the realities of the prevailing economic situation.
The Emir said the rising cost of living and declining value of the naira had significantly reduced the purchasing power of the stipends and allowances received by traditional rulers.
According to him, the proposed adjustment would provide much-needed relief to traditional rulers and enable them to perform their responsibilities more effectively.
Traditional institutions continue to play an important role in community mobilisation, conflict resolution, peace-building and engagement between government and citizens, particularly at the grassroots.
Bamalli’s position comes amid growing calls for improved welfare for traditional rulers, whose responsibilities have expanded in the face of increasing socio-economic challenges across the country.
The proposed 100 per cent increase is expected to be subject to the necessary approval and implementation processes by the Kaduna State Government.
The Emir’s endorsement underscores the traditional institution’s support for measures aimed at improving the welfare and effectiveness of traditional rulers across Kaduna State.
