Abbas Dissolves All Reps Ad Hoc Committees With Immediate Effect

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has ordered the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees of the House.
The directive was contained in a circular signed by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, and addressed to chairmen and members of the affected committees.
The committees were directed to cease all activities following the expiration of the deadlines approved for the completion of their assignments.
According to the circular, the House leadership had earlier directed the committees to conclude their mandates and submit their reports within the stipulated period.
Although two committees were granted a two-week extension, the extension had also expired.
The Clerk cited Order 18, Rule 11, Paragraph 5 of the House Standing Orders, stressing that the continued existence of the committees was no longer tenable after the expiration of the authorised timeframe.
The dissolution took effect from August 28, 2026.
The affected committees have also been directed to submit all outstanding reports, working documents and other records relating to their assignments to the Office of the Clerk.
The development marks an immediate end to the activities of the House's temporary committees, unless the House subsequently takes a fresh decision on any of their assignments.
