The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day across the state to enable civil servants, public workers and other eligible residents to participate in the forthcoming Local Government Councils elections.
The declaration was contained in a press release issued on Friday, August 14, 2026, and signed by Mukhtar M. Gidado, MNIPR, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
According to the statement, the decision was taken following the announcement by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) fixing Monday, August 17, for the conduct of elections into Local Government Councils across the state.
The government said the work-free day would provide civil servants and other eligible citizens, including workers at the local government, state and federal levels, as well as employees in the banking sector, the opportunity to exercise their civic responsibility without disruption from official duties.
However, workers engaged in essential services are exempted from the declaration.
The state government urged all eligible citizens and residents to come out peacefully and exercise their franchise in accordance with the law.
It also called on voters to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the elections, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process.
The government assured residents that relevant authorities would work to provide a peaceful and orderly environment for the elections.
