Maiduguri, Borno State – Security operatives have arrested a man suspected of acting as an informant for the Boko Haram terrorist group in connection with the recent attack on Cross Kauwa community in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

The suspect, identified as Abulfatahi, was reportedly apprehended on July 27 during an intelligence-led operation targeting an alleged terrorist intelligence network operating within the area.

According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, security sources disclosed that two other suspected members of the same network had earlier been arrested and transferred to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC) for further investigation.

The sources alleged that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to working for a Boko Haram commander identified as Akilu, who is believed to coordinate terrorist activities around Dabar Masara and Garin Mace.

Investigators also alleged that the suspect admitted to collecting levies on behalf of the terrorist commander and facilitating the identification of individuals for abduction in communities around Monguno.

Security personnel reportedly recovered two telephone numbers allegedly linked to the suspected terrorist commander from the suspect's mobile phone as part of ongoing investigations.

Authorities are said to be expanding the investigation to identify other suspected collaborators, establish the full scope of the alleged network, and strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the Lake Chad region.

No official statement had been issued by the Nigerian military or other security agencies at the time of filing this report. The allegations against the suspect have not been tested in court, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
