APC Must Win Osun Governorship Poll, Nothing Will Stop Us — National Chairman Yilwatda

ABUJA, Nigeria — National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that winning the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election is non-negotiable for the ruling party, describing the poll as a crucial test ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election, Yilwatda said the party would deploy its extensive political structure—including governors, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors, youth groups and women leaders—to secure victory for the APC candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
"We must win Osun and nothing will stop us," the APC national chairman declared, insisting that the election represents a strategic rehearsal for the party's preparations for the 2027 general elections.
According to him, APC governors from all geopolitical zones will be assigned specific senatorial districts across Osun State, where they will coordinate intensive grassroots campaigns alongside members of the National Assembly, state legislators and local government officials.
Yilwatda explained that the campaign strategy would focus on direct voter engagement through house-to-house mobilisation across the state.
"We do house-to-house. There's no tribe, no language, no person that is in Osun right now, both indigenous and non-indigene, that doesn't have a person in APC that can walk to his house. Nothing will stop us to take AMBO to Government House come August 15, 2026," he said.
The APC chairman described the newly inaugurated campaign council as a carefully assembled team comprising governors, ministers, deputy governors, members of the National Assembly, former lawmakers and other senior party stakeholders responsible for coordinating the electioneering process.
He maintained that the ruling party possesses unmatched political experience and organisational strength, arguing that no other political party in Nigeria can boast of a comparable network of elected officials and political leaders.
"If any political party in Nigeria has human resources in abundance, it is APC," Yilwatda said, adding that the party has continued to attract prominent defectors from opposition parties, thereby strengthening its electoral machinery.
He further cited the APC's victories in previous elections—from councillorship to the presidency—as evidence of its electoral capacity and confidence heading into the Osun governorship contest.
Describing the election as the final major poll before the 2027 general elections, Yilwatda said the outcome would provide a practical assessment of the party's readiness for the nationwide electoral battle.
"This is the last election that will hold before the general election. This will be our practising ground. This will be our rehearsal of the machinery we're going to prepare for 2027," he stated.
The APC also announced plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation by engaging women, youths, community leaders and other stakeholders across Osun State in the weeks leading to the election.
Political observers believe the Osun governorship election will be closely watched nationwide, with its outcome expected to shape the political momentum of major parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
